Saint Anne and Simple Sewing

Image from SewItGoes.net
I have been studying my knitting machine books, trying to figure out the best way to do argyll, oops, argyle, (why can’t I choose something simple like a face cloth???) and have run across a tantalizing method by Audrey Palmer.  She is now passed away but she taught Knit-Weaving throughout the 1970’s and [...]

Ah, James Brown, Rest In Peace

Posted on December 25, 2006. Filed under: Living, Working |

James Brown passed away this morning.
I’m glad I never knew him, he was tough on folks, and tough on himself, most of all.  He earned the title “The Hardest Working Man in Show Business”.
I know well this personality type: they excel, they try new things, they push the limits.  He did all this and more. I’m [...]

The Brother FB100: I Want DAK!

Posted on December 24, 2006. Filed under: Machine Knitting |

Test Stitchout: Living and Learning Lots, originally uploaded by Diva Mary Beth.
The background: 2 years ago I bought a few old knitting machines at ebay auction and then necessary accoutrements to make them work, thinking that I could tolerate the technology dating from the 1980’s.
After this very first trial run at inputting a custom pattern, [...]

Graph of Argyle, originally uploaded by Diva Mary Beth.
Here’s the argyle pattern all graphed out on regular graph paper. Each square is a stitch. A single motif, the basic design, is 26 stitches wide and 54 stitches high.
When I program this into the machine I can ask it to be repeated all across the garment [...]

Cleaning Knitting Machine Needles Instead…A Dirty Diva’s Story

Posted on December 21, 2006. Filed under: Machine Knitting |

I have been itching to get back to the knitting machines…I’ve been studying patterns, thinking about fit and designs, colors and existing yarns. I have ordered some knitting books, some MK how-tos and some patterns. This book, Plaids, Argyles and Scandinavian Knits by Pat Frette Designs, self-published Jan 1999, especially got my interest. I’m in [...]

Star of Bethlehem

Posted on December 21, 2006. Filed under: Business, Living, Sewing |

I woke up this morning to realize that the Marfy ad I shared a few days ago could be
the Star of Bethlehem.
That’s what I’d call inspiring advertising!

6 Days to Christmas

Posted on December 19, 2006. Filed under: Living |

What a beautiful email Marfy, the italian pattern company, has sent out this year!

Amazing how a clean well manicured hand, a large crystal and some sequines on a white dress can be so an uplifting. Thank you Marfy! This reminds me that fashion is art. An excellent piece of marketing, just brilliant!
As [...]

Pictures

Posted on December 16, 2006. Filed under: Blogging |

I’ve been playing around with the templates for this new site and adding categories. I’ve noticed a number of pictures missing from the September blog entries. That is the time frame when the template at Blogger.com got changed (not by me!!!) and my blog disappeared. There must be an archiving problem with [...]

Ok, I was expecting trouble…but no, no trouble. I can’t figure out how to import my links from the old blogspot blog but I think I can take my time now without Beta Blogger looming over me
Maybe when Beta Blogger takes over all the old blogspots I will have to reload all the pictures [...]
