I’ll Be Away for a week…
Hi folks:
I am going to an educational conference in Manhattan where I will be working in a booth as a vendor. I hope to take a little time off to see the FIT exhibit and meet up with a friend. I don’t know whether I’ll be able to do either, though. These [...]
Global Subsidies To Change Our Stashes?
Over at the Stitcher’s Guild sewing message board there has been a discussion on sourcing cotton fabrics to which I posted this roundup of recent global news items. Since it involved quite a bit of writing time I’ll reproduce it here.
It seems that in light of the world’s subsidies and trade agreements concerning all [...]
Malden Mills Now Polartec LLC
Officials with Chrysalis, the parent company of the new owners, Pipeline MMI LLC, say they plan to operate, not liquidate, the company. The company will operate under the name of Polartec LLC although Pipeline will own the name, Malden Mills and “use it where appropriate”.
Malden Mills, a 101 year old firm, manufactures knitted polyester [...]
T is for Turban
First, last September I was enthuiastic when I saw Ralph Lauren’s Spring show and his Turban
To which Georgene at MondoMode replied, pointing out that the original would suit her taste better.
Now, Vogue UK announces that Madonna has intro’d her version of the Turban in the “M for Madonna” line for H&M, although Vogue UK attributes [...]
Secret Weapon: Chapter 2
Lorna of NewmansNeedle blog and I were discussing things Irish today. I haven’t been feeling particularily inspired to write for either this blog or TheSewingDivas lately, maybe because I’m not ready quite yet to unveil the jacket I’ve been altering and maybe because I have had some stomach problems lately but I found [...]

I wish I had taken my own advice yesterday and not had any expectations for Valentine’s Day. I thought I was safe from letdowns because DH and I were acting on plans previously agreed upon and were going to go out for a fabulously romantic dinner. We get so little time for romance.
I [...]
Placement of Bobbles
Design rule #1 as I have learned it: Neither bobbles nor embroidery belong across the apex of the bust point. Someone please tell the knitwear designers?
Here we go again, folks. I find one of these photos about at least once a year:
Bobbles are lovely
Bobbles are nice
Bobbles can be tacky
When they’re in [...]
Ever Given Up Driving?
I’m all shook up! As dear Georgene says,
it must be the moon in stupid.
It was a dark and stormy night and time to leave The Stitchery for home.
I turned left into the left hand lane of a two lane divided highway with plenty of time to accelerate to the 55 mile an hour [...]
Ayurvastra, Cosmeto-Textiles, and Skin
Posted this past week was a muse about infusing fabrics with scents, presumedly to make products more attractive to consumers choosing between many different but competing items: Sensual Fabrics: RTW
Infusing fabrics to affect the human state of being is not new. Ayurvedic practitioners have infused organic dyes and medicines into coir mats and fabrics to [...]
Knit Skirt Suit
Woo, woo, woo! Look at this beauty from Bagley Mischka! It would be duplicated on a bulky (8 or 9 mm) needle bed if you can find the yarn. It probably also is a dress underneath the topper.
