The Old Machine Blues

Posted on

I have used the electronic KnitKing IV to knit a sweater vest so I settled on using the manual Brother 830 to do the new skirt. But, nooooooo can dooooo, I am missing a vital screw!

I am showing you the underside of the Brother 830’s knit carriage with the sinker plate attached. It’s been well oiled, cleaned and, I thought it was ready to go, but one of the screws that holds the very important gears on is missing. Darn!!!

It’s always something with a used machine.

Ah, but fortunately, I read Sandee Cherry‘s book “My Favorite Hints and Techniques” last night and learned that she had intentionally removed her wheel brushes years ago and left them off.

I could “steal” a screw from one of the brushes and use it on the gear.

Saved! So, with hope in my heart I am pushing ahead, planning to teach myself how to use the knit leader with this new skirt project.

At least that’s the plan….

About Mary Beth

I am fascinated by changing patterns and colored threads. I sew garments and am teaching myself to machine knit. Since selling the building that housed my workrooms, The Stitchery, I'm searching for a place to set up the knitting machines again. There must be room here somewhere!

So, What Do You Think?
