Testing: Styrofoam Pin cushions

When there’s a flaw in the final product, these wooden boxes become home storage. Anyone know why, stuffed with recycled Styrofoam, they couldn’t become the new pin holders?

About Mary Beth

I am fascinated by changing patterns and colored threads. I sew garments and am teaching myself to machine knit. Since selling the building that housed my workrooms, The Stitchery, I'm searching for a place to set up the knitting machines again. There must be room here somewhere!

  1. Hmmm. They look cool. As long as the styro is secure, it looks like a good deal. Knowing me, I’d want just one pin and end up pulling the styro right out of the box!

  2. If you’re ok with the sound of the pins in and out of the Styrofoam, then you’re good. I’m one of those folks for whom it’s like nails on a chalkboard, though. Nice boxes!

  3. Nice boxes, the only thing I can think of is after being used a while, if they start to crumble and shed little staticy bits of styrofoam. Perhaps a bit of fabric wrapped around first might be a good idea?

  4. I think I’d put some sand and/or sawdust or something in a ‘beanbag’ and put that in the box. I do love the look of those boxes for pins and other tools or notions.
